Stolen Tools

Police are appealing to residents to come forward if they have had some expensive Stihl power tools stolen in the last few weeks.

Officers from Carshalton Central and Wallington South Safer Neighbourhoods Teams recovered a strimmer and chainsaw after arresting two youths on suspicion of theft on Tuesday 4th May at 3.10pm. The youths, aged 14 and 17, were walking along Ross Road, Wallington. They have been bailed pending further enquiries.

PC Pat White, of Carshalton Central SNT, said owners would need to provide the correct serial numbers of the tools when contacting police.

Wallingtion Day of Action March 10

Officers from Sutton’s Safer Neighbourhood Teams spoke to dozens of residents and made around 50 ‘stops’ on individuals during a ‘Day of Action’ in Woodcote Road and Wallington Square.

Officers made one arrest for a deception offence and also issued £80 Fixed Penalty Notices to two drivers for having no insurance and three drivers for not wearing a seat belt.

The Day of Action occurred as a result of concerns raised by some residents following detailed engagement with the communities in Wallington. Residents had raised concerns about groups of youths and undesirable groups gathering, speeding vehicles, inconsiderate parking and litter.

Insp Colin Baker said: "These days are all about high visibility policing to reassure the public that we are listening to what they are telling us and taking appropriate action."

Moves to wipe out graffiti

Following concerns from local residents, the Wallington South Safer Neighbourhood Team has been targeting known graffiti culprits in the area who they believe are responsible for this type of vandalisim. Although it is a continuing campaign and progress has been made there is clear evidence that graffiti in the area is being reduced. Along with targeting known offenders Community Payback projects have been carried out on the ward in an effort to clear up the most affected areas mainly around the area of Wallington BR Station. In addition, the team has carried out plain-clothes operations after dark which have proved very successful in preventing acts of graffiti and arresting offenders. Further operations are planned. Graffiti removal solvents are available from Solvent Solutions.
