Drugs Arrest
In support of Sutton Police’s continuing burglary initiative, officers from Wallington South Safer Neighbourhoods Team stopped and searched a Ford Transit van and discovered £21,500 cash and half a kilo of cocaine with an approximate street value of around £12,000.
The SNT officers stopped the vehicle in Stafford Road, Wallington, on Saturday 4th October 2008 just after 1.30pm.
Under the driver’s seat, officers found a large bag of £50 notes, totalling £19,500. The search continued and the glove compartment was found to contain a white rock substance in a plastic bag. Under the passenger seat, two smaller bags of white powder were found.
The driver, Justin David Green, was searched and £2,000 in £50 notes was discovered in the back pocket of his jeans.
Green, aged 35, a scaffolder, of Applegarth, New Addington, Croydon, was arrested. He was charged the following day with money laundering offences and with possession with intent to supply.
At Croydon Crown Court today (Monday 9th March) Green pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 3 years and 9 months jail.
The Court approved an application from Sutton Police Financial Investigation Unit for £21,500 to be forfeited under Section 27 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. The money will be used for local police operations.
