Objectives of Neighbourhood Watch
Neighbourhood Watch relies on the participation of the neighbours who live in an area, whether this is a close, a road or a block of flats. There are over 600 Neighbourhood Watch schemes in working closely with police officers and members of the local Safer Neighbourhood Support teams.
• To prevent crime by improving security, increasing vigilance, creating and maintaining a caring community and reducing opportunities for crime by increasing crime prevention awareness.
• To assist the police in detecting crime by promoting effective communication and the prompt reporting of suspicious and criminal activity.
• To reduce undue fear of crime by providing accurate information about risks and by promoting a sense of security and community spirit, particularly amongst the more vulnerable members of the community.
• To improve police/community liaison by providing effective communications through Key Individual Networks, to warn Co-ordinators of local crime trends which they can disseminate to their members, and by members informing the police of incidents when they occur.
If you would like to know more about Neighbourhood Watch in or you are interested in setting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme then please contact us through this web site or call us on 0208 649 0614.

Join Community Safe
|
 |
 |
| |
We strongly recommend that you join the Community Safe email alert system, which is a joint initiative by the Police and Sutton Council to keep residents informed of important and relevant information in your neighbourhood.
Community Safe is a good way of communicating important messages because it’s quick. This is an important consideration for the police seeking to catch offenders and tackle issues like anti-social behaviour.
Once registered, I suggest that you join both your local ‘SNT community area' and the ‘Sutton Borough Global Group’, which entitles you to receive all relevant alerts. You can join any or all of the groups.
Alternatively, if you prefer you can email your wish to sign up to Community Safe to Jackie McLean, the Community Safe Co-ordinator at Sutton Police station, and Jackie will do this for you. Jackie’s email address is: jackie.mclean@sutton.gov.uk.
